Wine
Tyrrell's Winemaker's Selection Vat 1 Semillon, first produced in 1963, is a classic Hunter Semillon. Part of the Winemakers Selection series, it is made in small volumes to showcase the best of the Hunter Valley.
The fruit is only ever sourced from Tyrrell's best dry grown old vines, the oldest planted in 1923. They grow in sandy, free draining soils that give the Semillon fruit its unique character.
All of the grapes are handpicked and carefully sorted in the vineyard. The juice sees a relatively cool fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel vats.
After minimal time on yeast lees, the wine is bottled early to maintain freshness. It then quietly spends several years resting in the cellar before release.
With no oak fermentation or maturation Winemaker's Selection Vat 1 Hunter Semillon epitomizes the benefits of patient bottle ageing, elevating this unoaked wine to new heights.
Pale yellow, Tyrrell's Winemaker's Selection Vat 1 Semillon is tightly structured with long citrus flavours balanced by texture and soft acidity. Just beginning to evolve, it has hints of toasty complexity.
It is one of Australia's most awarded white wines. Cellaring potential is 12 years.
